Rita’s Dream Weaving Studio

Rita’s Dream Weaving Studio

Opened by established tapestry artist Rita Romanova Gekht in May of  2017, the Studio is a place where creativity, design and artistic excellence are taking place every day as Rita creates her tapestries at 45 Bridge Street, Suite 2A in the heart of Lambertville, NJ. “As an artist, it was my dream to open a space where I could practice this beautiful tradition of tapestry weaving and share it with others through teaching and workshops. My goal is to reintroduce our community to this “slow art form” and to raise an appreciation for one of the most visually rich, healing and meditative creative mediums.”

Rita was first introduced to tapestry weaving while attending NYU and pursuing her computer science  degree by taking an elective class taught by a contemporary fiber artist – Michelle Lester.  This exposure to fiber art changed her life.  From there Rita continued her art education at Parson’s School of Design, The School of Visual Arts, The New School and The Art Student’s League of NY.  She also became the studio manager of  the Michelle Lester Studio and supervised most of the tapestry projects that the studio produced. During the 80’s and 90’s Rita wove a number of tapestries that were exhibited, collected and commissioned throughout the US. She has participated in numerous museum exhibitions around the United States and in several galleries and exhibition spaces.  Her most recent work “Ruins in the Moonlight”, shown at New Hope Arts in New Hope, Pa this past May,  which depicted a very familiar image of the “Ruins” in New Hope and is now part of a private art collection.
